A small guide to the sights of the island

Leon of Kea

Opposite Ioulida, on the way to the spring of Veniamin, rests lazily the Leon of Kea, carved in the rock since the 6th century. It is 6 meters long and has an enigmatic smile, as it surveys Ioulida and its inhabitants, which he protected from the nymphs. There have been many legends and traditions among the natives about this peculiar lithic statue. All of them agree though that Leon is the landmark and pride of Kea.
