Discover Kea island

A small guide to the sights of the island

The Museum of Ioulida

If we go up the paving after the small square of Piazza, we see the archeological museum of Ioulida. The museum has got three floors. On the ground floor there is the storage area and the laboratories of the archeological research. On the first floor one can see the findings of the classical period, whereas on the second floor is the exhibition of the findings of the prehistoric settlement of Agia Irini. The statues, cookware, jewellery and coins of the classical period come mainly from the digs in ancient Ioulida and Karthaia. On the second floor visitors can admire the prehistoric findings of Kefala and Agia Irini and especially the wonderful kores of Kea, big clay statues, which are one of a kind and were found in the peninsula of Agia Irini.
